Main Task: chose and Interview An Organization Exploring Implementation

1. For this activity, please contact by phone or e-mail a manager or representative of your chosen organization. If you like you can research the information instead of interviewing.
2. Many corporate websites list contact information and are receptive to student inquiries.
3. It is preferred that you make an attempt to contact as high a level of administration as possible; however, if necessary, you may contact a local representative of your organization. For example, PepsiCo has many corporate offices but operates through a series of local distributorships.
4. In your correspondence, request a 30-minute personal interview or meeting for the purpose of discussing "business objectives." During your meeting, seek answers to the following questions:
1. Do you believe it is important for a business to establish and clearly communicate long-term and annual objectives? Why or why not?
2. Does your organization establish objectives? If yes, what type and how many? How are the objectives communicated to individuals? Are the organization’s objectives in written form or simply communicated orally?
3. To what extent are managers and employees involved in the process of establishing objectives?
4. How often are your business objectives revised and by what process? And by whom?
5. Can you think of an example when implementation of objectives produced undesired results? Was the implementation plan altered or corrected? How?
6. To what extent have you been engaged in implementing or changing strategies in some or all of the following areas: sales territories or boundaries, opening or closing facilities, hiring or reducing employees, changing pricing strategy, developing or revising budgets, modifying advertising and/or marketing strategies, and building different management information systems?
Take thorough notes during the interview. Refer to the information that you have gathered about your chosen organization and write a paper summarizing your interview and answering what you learned about your question responses and its relationship to strategy implementation. If needed, continue your research to locate and analyze the necessary data to answer these questions about your organization.
