The United States is a single country, but our federalist system allows individual states to create their own laws and policies across a wide range of issues. The states are diverse in terms of population, geography, economics, and political culture. This assignment will give you the opportunity to learn about how states differ from each other in their laws and policies.
Choose four US states–any four you want. For each state, you need to research and report on the following:
Does the state allow gay marriage? If not, does it allow civil unions? Has the state amended its constitution to prohibit gay marriage?
Does the state allow corporal punishment in the schools? (In other words, are public school teachers or principals allowed to physically discipline students by spanking or paddling them?)
