For this assignment, you must pick a historical topic from the list below. Students are expected to write a three to four page paper on the topic. (This page guideline does not include title pages and bibliographies, there needs to be 3-4 pages of actual content). Please avoid long quotes, as what I want to see is your own words, not those of others.
(1.)Summarize the topic using specific examples throughout history. For example, if you were writing about the history of African American troops in the Civil War you would want to talk about recruiting, training, different regiments, and major battles.
(2.)What is the evidence for your viewpoint? Since, this is a history class; you will have to find concrete and reliable evidence for your viewpoint. YOU MUST CITE YOUR SOURCES! Use Chicago Style. I understand that you are not used to this format, and am much more concerned that you did real research. However, part of being a historian is citing sources so do give this your best shot.
(3.)Summary: summarize your paper in the last paragraph.
The paper MUST be typed in Microsoft word using Times New Roman font (12), double spaced, with the preset margins. Chicago Style formatting should be used when completing the historical topic paper. Submit the paper as a MS Word attachment. Students must submit the historical topic paper no later than Sunday at midnight during week six. Keep in mind that waiting until the last minute will give you less time to reply to the follow-up questions I will ask that are worth 2% of your course grade.
Late papers will be penalized at the rate of 10% per week (No exceptions!). Turning in your research paper late may also result in the loss of the opportunity to respond to a follow-up question from the instructor.
